Section Surveys

Technical, IT, and Scientific Section Survey

The ASA Technical, IT, and Scientific Section Survey is conducted annually and collects information on topics including operations, mergers and acquisitions, relationships with human resources and procurement departments, and contracting with clients. ASA has been conducting this survey since 2006.

In response to member interest in sector-specific data, the ASA technical, IT, and scientific membership section conducts an annual survey of its sector of the staffing industry. The policy council, made up of ASA member volunteers, develops the survey’s content and ensures that it collects the information sector members are most interested in. Topics covered include business operations; internal staff; mergers and acquisitions; contracting with clients; and client human resource and procurement departments.

Key findings of the 2009 survey include

• Seventy percent of respondents anticipate they will experience continued downward pressure to lower margins and rate in the technical, IT, and scientific staffing sector.
• Survey respondents identified downward pricing pressures and dealing with VMS restrictions as the top two challenges they expect to face in the next three years.
• Seventy-eight percent of survey respondents indicated that their firm plans to increase efforts to expand national account sales.

The results of the 2009 ASA technical, IT, and scientific section annual survey are available for purchase for nonparticipants. The survey report includes comparisons from past years.
