Agapito Soto: 2007 National Staffing Employee of the Year
Celebrating National Staffing Employee Week, Sept. 17–23

The American Staffing Association has announced Agapito Soto, an information technology consultant at the Orange County Sheriff's Department in California, is the 2007 National Staffing Employee of the Year.

"We salute Agapito and the three million temporary and contract employees who are on assignments every day," says Richard Wahlquist, ASA president and chief executive officer. "From the assembly line to the executive suite, temporary and contract employees are a vitally important part of the U.S. work force."

An employee of ASA member company Sapphire Technologies, Agapito has been on assignment with the OCSD for three years. He serves on the IT and communications subcommittee of the department's Terrorism Working Group, which is responsible for screening and recommending applications and equipment in compliance with U.S. Department of Homeland Security Guidelines and Homeland Security Presidential Directive 5. The main objective of this effort is to keep Orange County's residents safe in event of disaster by ensuring interoperable communications between agencies and disciplines.

"Agapito has always been willing to go the extra mile," says Amy Roos, the senior technical recruiter at Sapphire who nominated Agapito for the distinction. And she means it literally—according to Roos, Agapito has been sent to various locations across the country for training on homeland security projects.

Agapito's success story exemplifies why millions of people choose to work as temporary and contract employees for U.S. staffing firms: job opportunities, choice of assignments, and training. Retiring after 20 years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, Agapito connected with the staffing firm to transition into the next phase of his career, says Roos.

"He is a consultant who has become an important part of the team," Roos adds. "All we hear about Agapito is super positive. He is the guy everyone knows and enjoys working with."

Agapito will be formally honored as National Staffing Employee of the Year in October at Staffing World™ 2007, the ASA convention and expo, where he will be presented with gifts and celebrated by staffing professionals from around the world.

The 2007 National Staffing Employee of the Year is sponsored by the Inavero Institute for Service Research, a leading provider of feedback systems designed to capture the voice of clients and employees.
