Pediatric Respiratory Therapist Named 2009 National Staffing Employee of the Year by American Staffing Association
Erin O'Connell Contributes to the Rehabilitative Care of Infants and Children at Top Pediatric Hospital in Pittsburgh
The American Staffing Association announced today that Erin O'Connell, a pediatric respiratory therapist with STAT Staffing Medical Services in Pittsburgh, has been named the 2009 National Staffing Employee of the Year. The announcement marks the beginning of National Staffing Employee Week, Sept. 15–21.
"ASA salutes Erin and the contributions of the three million temporary and contract employees who are on assignments in the U.S. every business day," says Richard Wahlquist, ASA president and chief executive officer. "From the assembly line to the executive suite, temporary and contract employees are a vital component of the U.S. work force."
An employee of ASA member company STAT Staffing Medical Services, O'Connell currently is on assignment at the Children's Institute of Pittsburgh. She serves on the team of health care professionals that cares for infants and children being rehabilitated for brain injuries, paralysis, organ transplants, and more. In addition to caring for her patients, O'Connell trains student nurses on respiratory care and prepares the parents of patients to provide quality care at home for their special-needs children.
"Erin symbolizes what STAT Staffing Medical Services has been advocating for the past 10 years—temporary and contract health care professionals are highly skilled and provide high-quality care," says Tom Muscatello, STAT Staffing Medical Services chief executive officer. "Erin has led by example since she started on assignment at the Children's Institute. Her dedication to her work and the children she cares for is boundless."
O'Connell's success story exemplifies why millions of people choose to work as temporary and contract employees: flexibility. After deciding to return to her hometown of Pittsburgh with her husband to start a family, O'Connell wanted a flexible work schedule to allow her a work–life balance. She works three 12-hour shifts a week, allowing her to spend more time at home with her husband and infant son.
O'Connell will be formally honored Oct. 24 in San Diego during a special ceremony at Staffing World® 2008, the ASA convention and expo, where she will be celebrated by thousands of staffing professionals from around the world.
The 2009 National Staffing Employee of the Year is sponsored by the Inavero Institute for Service Research, an ASA corporate partner and a leading provider of feedback systems designed to capture the voice of clients and employees.
Interviews with ASA key personnel are available.
