Membership Sections

What Are Membership Sections?

To represent all sectors of the staffing industry, ASA created sector-specific communities, called membership sections, to promote peer networking and collaboration. These topic-specific sections support the broad areas of the industry: heath care; industrial; professional; search and placement; and technical, IT, and scientific. All ASA members are eligible to enroll in one or more sections for free.

Membership offerings for each section include sector-specific information through

  • Membership Section Webinars—Network with industry colleagues about important sector topics during these Web-based programs.
  • Sector Benchmarking Survey—Find financial and operations metrics for health care; industrial; office–clerical; professional; and technical, IT, and scientific staffing.
  • Sector Workshops—Learn about the pressing issues facing your sector in sector-specific sessions and network with your industry colleagues at Staffing World®, the ASA annual convention and expo.
  • Staffing Success—Stay abreast on sector-specific information with the ASA bimonthly publication which includes sector highlights.

Membership sections are led by a policy council composed of ASA member volunteers who advise the ASA board of directors on sector-specific issues, coordinate the section's activities, and design programs and services to meet the unique business challenges faced by these sectors of the staffing industry. New resources are continually being developed for each section. Visit the Web page of the section or sections you are interested in for details on specific tools and resources.

  • The health care section serves firms that place physicians, dentists, nurses, hygienists, medical technicians, therapists, home health aides, custodial care workers, and other health care personnel. Benefits include a list of answers to frequently asked questions about the new health care sector model contracts, developed for use in preparing client agreements, and a glossary of insurance terms.
  • The industrial section serves firms that place workers in manufacturing, wholesale, retail, and industrial- and construction-based businesses, including warehouse, assembly, transportation, hospitality, and maintenance workers; food handlers; cleaners; drivers; tradespeople; machine operators; and day laborers. Benefits include A Guide to Hosting a Site Tour for Influentials—a step-by-step manual to conducting site tours.
  • The professional section serves firms that place temporary or contract employees in occupations that require higher skill or education levels. Examples include accountants, lawyers, teachers, graphic artists, copywriters, marketing specialists, sales representatives, project managers, and chief executives. Benefits include model job descriptions with samples of job titles and responsibilities common to firms in the professional staffing sector.
  • The search and placement section serves firms that provide direct hire placement and special recruiting services. Benefits include a direct placement model contract for use in preparing client agreements.
  • The technical, IT, and scientific section serves firms that place individuals with special skills or training in technical fields involving math or science, computer sciences, or communications technology. Benefits include six sector-specific model contracts for use in preparing client agreements.

Membership with ASA sections provides volunteer opportunities including leadership on the section policy council, contributing to ASA publications, presenting for membership section Webinars, and more.
