Industry Trainers Share Their Tactics
Leading staffing industry trainers revealed how they differentiate themselves from their competitors, close deals, ensure responses to their voice-mail messages, and more, in Chicago at the 2008 ASA recruiting symposium.
Three ASA membership sectionsplacement and recruiting; professional; and technical, IT, and scientifichosted this education and networking opportunity. The first day of the symposium featured experts in direct hire, and the second day focused on ways to find diverse candidates, uncommon Internet sourcing techniques, and how to recruit high-caliber temporary talent for the long term.
In her session, Kathleen Kurke of Starbridge Group Inc. encouraged attendees to shift the way they approach clients by talking about issues and trends that might be creating problems or opportunities for the clients. "Clients are not sitting around hoping we'll call them. They're thinking about their increasing costs," explained Kurke.
Stacy Ethun of Park Avenue Group Inc. says that when a deal fails, it's because the recruiter "didn't ask all of the questions on the candidate profile sheet or you didn't know something about your client or the job order that you should have."
Patricia Drain, CPC, CIPC, CSP, of Patricia Drain & Associates, says she has discovered seven habits that top producers have in common. They include planning every moment of every day, being focused, knowing the right questions to ask, staying abreast of the industry, knowing their numbers, and believing in themselves. Additionally, "top producers know how to control their candidates, their clients, andmost importantthemselves."
