Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I earn a Certified Staffing Professional™ or Technical Services Certified™ designation?
A: It's easy!
Purchase the study materials, study at your own pace, and take the online exam when you're ready. You'll receive information on how to take the exam when you order the full package or the exam.

Q: I purchased CSP study materials in January 2007. Can I use these materials to prepare for the certification exam that was updated in spring 2007?
A: No. Both the CSP™ and TSC™ exams are based on content from the newest editions of Employment Law for Staffing Professionals and Co-Employment: Employer Liability Issues in Third-Party Staffing Arrangements. Updated content is included in the revised textbooks, workbooks, and exams. Both exams now include questions on state employment law in addition to federal content.

Q: How do I get a summary of my continuing education hours?
A: You can access the CE summary that ASA has on file for you through
ASAPro. This feature enables you to monitor your progress toward renewing your designation.

To access your personal CE summary, simply click on My Account to log in, then select My CE Summary.

Q: There are hours missing from my credit summary. How do I get them added?
A: Certified staffing professionals can now use ASAPro to submit coursework taken outside of ASA or ASAPro . Visit
ASAPro, click on My Account to log in, and select the CE Submission form to report any additional courses completed. ASAPro will track and award your continuing education hours submitted through this form or earned through ASAPro 10 business days after you submit or complete the course.

Q: I already have my CSP designation, but want to be able to tell my clients that I have demonstrated knowledge of my state's employment laws. How can I do this?
A: Staffing professionals who currently hold a CSP or TSC designation can
purchase one or more state employment law workbooks to prepare for the 20-question state-specific online exam. Upon receiving a passing grade, you will receive an updated certificate to demonstrate your achievement.

Q: I'm ready to take the exam. Where do I go?
A: When you ordered your study materials or purchased access to the online exam, you received an online exam instruction sheet with your materials. It included a unique user ID, password, and Web site address (URL) to access your exam. Type the URL into your browser to reach the exam site, enter your password, and then the timed exam will begin. You can only access this once, so make sure you have two hours of uninterrupted time.

If you have misplaced the online exam instruction sheet, e-mail csp.tsc@americanstaffing.net.

Q: I've had my TSC designation for years and see that those who pass the updated TSC exam earn both the CSP and TSC designations. How might I also earn the CSP designation?
A: Renew your TSC before the end of your three-year renewal period, review the latest edition of the study materials, and then take the CSP exam.

Q: I have both the CSP and TSC designations, and both are up for renewal. Am I required to earn 30 continuing education hours for each?
A: No. Any continuing education hours earned can apply to both designations.

Q: I've had my CSP designation for three years, and have obtained the required 30 hours of CE. What do I need to do to complete my renewal?
A: To renew your designation, please complete the
online renewal application and submit the application fee. Once processed, ASA will send you a letter that will include your next renewal deadline.

Q: I won't be able to earn the 30 CE hours by my renewal deadline. What can I do?
A: You can retake the CSP or TSC exam, which will extend your maintenance period for another three years.

Q: How are continuing education hours calculated?
A: Hours are based on the actual instructional time of approved events or Webinars. Recordings of live programs qualify for full credit. For example, listening to a recording of a program that was originally a live, two-hour session will earn the listener two hours of passive continuing education credit. Breaks and lunch do not count toward credit hours.

Q: I did not pass the exam. How many times can I retake the exam, and is there a cost to do so?
A: You can retake the exam as many times as necessary. You must
purchase the exam within 90 days of your first attempt in order to receive the discounted rate of $120. After those 90 days, you must pay the full exam fee of $150.
