Julian Joy, CSP, president, managing partner, Joy Partners LLC
Wednesday, 4:15–5:30 p.m.
Section Session

What are the latest trends and top challenges affecting professional staffing? Find out with Julian Joy, chairman of the ASA professional section. He will lead participants through a lively and thought-provoking discussion about the key issues that sector players are grappling with at the moment. In this session, you'll share your No. 1 concerns, and then collaborate with Joy and other participants to select the topics to be addressed and discussed fully in small breakouts.

How do you sell professional sector staffing in today's economy? How do you overcome objections to using recruiting services? How do you build client loyalty in a downturn? What are the best techniques for candidate-centric marketing? And what are the most effective strategies for building business—fast—in the professional sector? Hear from your peers on how to address these and other issues. Network with others in this sector, and learn tactics you can apply immediately.

An Insider's Point of View: Feedback From HR Professionals
Greg Doersching, owner, the Griffin Search Group
Thursday, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Find out what Greg Doersching learned from human resource professionals during three uninterrupted hours of discussion over dinner regarding their work with staffing firms. Doersching, an active recruiter who still runs a highly productive desk every day, will share insights regarding why you don't get the feedback you should, and the logic behind why HR professionals don't like to alter the salary ranges for a specific candidate. He'll help you understand how to present your firm to clients in a way that will get their attention, what information you need to prepare for them in order to get their business, and how clients want to see candidates presented.

What you discover will drastically change the way you run your company and how you think about the work your staff is doing. Hear what HR professionals would like to tell you but never have and probably never will.

Consider the Full-Service Model—Tell Your Clients to Stop the Shopping
Bobbie Ann Miller, owner and president, Advantage Resource Group
Friday, 9–10:15 a.m.

During economic downturns, the human resource department is often one of the first to experience personnel cuts. Those cuts can provide a unique opportunity for a staffing firm to expand its services and offer an all-inclusive HR product. This workshop will provide a first-hand account of how to do that.

In this case study, Bobbie Ann Miller will tell the story of how she re-engineered her staffing firm to provide a broad spectrum of services, including drug testing, payroll processing, HR audits, affirmative action programs, employee handbooks, résumé writing, and safety programs. Her vision of providing small- and medium-sized companies a place to go for any HR need led to additional revenue that helped get her firm through a recession. And her firm saw increased client loyalty too. Miller will guide participants through a one-page strategic plan and the steps they need to take to add value by providing traditional HR services.
