Operations and Staff Development Learning Track

Focus on the Best
Barb Bruno, president, Good as Gold Training
Wednesday, 2–3 p.m.

Growth and profits are the keys to success for owners and managers of today's recruiting and staffing firms. The best way to achieve those goals is by focusing on the best, says industry veteran Barb Bruno, CPC, CTS. In this workshop, she'll show you how to identify your best business, your best sales talent, and your best prospects. You'll learn how to rely on the 80–20 rule so you can stop wasting time and start boosting the productivity of your sales team. And you'll find out how to think “outside-in,” seeing your business from the perspective of the people you serve, regardless of whether they are clients, candidates, or employees. When you see your business through their eyes, it will become clear how to reposition and differentiate your business as best-in-class.

Bonus: Participants will also learn how to generate passive sources of income, including earning revenue from the 95% of candidates who are not placed.

Technology Integration for Operations Efficiency—Back to the Future
Panel moderated by Hope Bradford, director, system architect, Kelly Services Inc.
Thursday, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Whether you consider technology friend or foe, it's here to stay—and grow—rapidly. Come along for the ride. Join Kelly Services' technology expert Hope Bradford as she moderates a panel of staffing company "techies," including Joseph Drouin, Robin Mee, and Jonathan Novich, to explore the ins and outs, and ups and downs of technology integration.

You'll learn how technology delivers return on investment for staffing companies and what role it plays in helping them keep up with their competition. You'll explore different applications and tools that staffing companies are using, how they are integrating them, and how that integration has positively affected productivity, workload, and the bottom line. Discover how technology integration can enhance the experience of your candidates and clients, and innovative ways to use technology to their benefit, such as portals to get questions answered quickly or administrative tasks accomplished easily.

Fire up your infrastructure to be more efficient so you can spend more time where it counts—face-to-face with prospects, candidates, and clients.

Delegating: An Art of Giving, Receiving, and Leveraging Time
Mitzi Weinman, president, TimeFinder
Thursday, 2:30–3:45 p.m.

Do you spend more time doing work that others should be doing? Do you have difficulty asking people to do things? Do you think your team has more work than it can handle? Achieving operational efficiency for yourself and your team is important to get things done and move your company forward.

Effective delegation improves productivity. Mitzi Weinman will explain why it's important to be comfortable delegating, and just as important to know how to receive delegated work.

In this workshop you will learn

  • The added value and benefits of delegating and how to avoid delegating traps
  • The differences between delegating work and assigning tasks
  • How to be more confident and comfortable delegating
  • Techniques to deal with upward delegation

You'll also learn how to establish guidelines for accountability and follow-through. You'll develop an action plan for delegating that you can put into practice right away.

E-Verify: The Key to Getting and Keeping Client Contracts
Helen Konrad, Esq., partner, McCandlish Holton PC
Thursday, 4:30–5:30 p.m.
Qualifies for legal continuing education

Clients are increasingly requiring staffing companies to enroll in E-Verify—a Web-based employment verification and identification system—as a condition for getting a contract. Many state laws also require employers to enroll in E-Verify to retain a state business license. And just recently, regulations were published that require all federal contractors and certain subcontractors to use E-Verify to secure a federal contract.

Understanding whether your company needs to enroll is critical to complying with state and federal law. Ignoring these rules can have significant consequences in lost revenue and fines. Training on I-9 compliance and the specifics of how that interfaces with E-Verify is essential to successfully implementing E-Verify and avoiding an audit. This workshop focuses on both E-Verify and I-9 compliance. Plus Konrad will explain the pros and cons of enrolling when E-Verify is not required by law.

Sharon Melnick, executive coach and psychologist
Friday, 9–10:15 a.m.

Melnick will show you how to turn fear into faith, and frustration into opportunity.
