About the Association
Oregon Staffing Association Mission Statement: The Oregon Staffing Association is the voice of the staffing industry. Our mission is to promote the interests of our members through legal and legislative advocacy, public relations, education, and the establishment of high standards of ethical conduct.
The Oregon Staffing Association has chosen to focus on the following:
Legislation. Across the country, the staffing industry has been the target of adverse legislation that attacks our ability to conduct business and our livelihood. Our Association is prepared to identify and defeat any adverse legislation that is introduced while it is still in committee — before it ever reaches the floor. We have contracted with a lobbying firm to act as our eyes and ears in the capital to provide an early warning about bills introduced that affect our industry. We then rely on the grassroots efforts of our members to put pressure on their elected representatives to halt the bill. To strengthen the grassroots system we hosted a legislative reception in Portland last fall. We also arranged to have last month’s membership meeting in the State Capital where we received an update from our lobbyist and had time to speak with our elected officials.
Information and education. Historically we have relied on our luncheon meetings to be the main source of information and education. We have expanded our educational calendar to include an additional two half day educational special events featuring very talented industry specific educators. Other enhancements include a weekly informational email about legislative issues from around the country, continuing education credits for membership meetings and educational events, and consistent use of meeting evaluation forms as part of a program to use your feedback to improve the association.
Member benefits. More than one member has stated that they save enough money through the Association’s discounted drug screening program to more than cover the cost of their membership. We are pursuing additional member benefits in the areas of printing, advertising and insurance that will provide similar tangible results.

OSA Wins National Awards
The Oregon Staffing Association was honored at Staffing World® 2008, the annual convention and expo of the American Staffing Association, held Oct. 22–25 in San Diego. OSA received a chapter merit award for its outstanding programs and chapter efforts in 2008, and an award for its outstanding legislative efforts.
OSA president Randy Shelton accepted the awards from ASA chairman Linda Carchidi, CSP, at a special breakfast event during the convention.
The American Staffing Association evaluated state associations on their support of the staffing industry through chapter meetings, special events, educational seminars, and community outreach efforts, and honored the chapters with the most outstanding programs with merit awards.
State staffing associations that won legislative merit awards took positive and effective steps to make sure legislators understand the role of flexible jobs and how the staffing industry benefits the economy. These steps included face-to-face meetings, testimony at legislative hearings, letter-writing campaigns, state capitol hill days, and other political activities.
OSA is a statewide association of staffing companies in Oregon. The staffing industry in Oregon employs 138,682 temporary and contract employees per year.
ASA represents the $91 billion U.S. staffing industry. Member companies operate more than 15,000 offices across the nation and account for 85% of U.S. industry sales.
